Funded Research

1. Catalytic Combustion of Fuel Rich Methane Oxygen Mixtures in a Platinum Microtube.

This Phase I project, funded by NASA EPSCoR, focuses on developing a MicroMiniaturized Catalytic Thruster aimed at advancing in-space propulsion technologies. The project aligns with NASA’s Strategic Technology Investment Plan (STIP) 2017 and is designed to enhance the United States' leadership in space technology and spacecraft operations. The innovations expected from this research will facilitate faster transit times for deep space missions at reduced costs, benefiting NASA, the Department of Defense (DoD), and various governmental and commercial agencies in the space market. Additionally, the thrusters produced will support the Internet for All service and contribute to In-Situ Resource Utilization (ISRU) efforts for future planetary missions.

2. Enhancing Aircraft Performance Models through Machine Learning

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is exploring the integration of advanced machine learning (ML) methods to enhance aircraft performance models (APMs) used in ground-based trajectory modelers. This enhancement aims to validate and expand existing APMs while enabling the rapid and efficient addition of new aircraft. By producing more accurate trajectory predictions, the enhanced APMs could facilitate better coordination of air traffic and user preferences within the National Airspace System (NAS). This project involves collaboration among Archeticture Technology Corporation, NASA, FAA, and MITRE to leverage expertise and resources for improved aviation safety and efficiency.
