Applied Science Private University (ASU) is participating as a key partner in a high-impact international project titled “Energy Futures on Campus in the Middle East,” jointly funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through the develoPPP program. The project is implemented in partnership with Imam Ja’afar Al-Sadiq University (IJSU) – Baghdad, and in cooperation with Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and the University of Münster in Germany. The project leverages advanced German expertise in modeling future energy systems through 2050, while transferring scientific and applied knowledge tailored to the Jordanian and Iraqi contexts.
The project aims to support the transition toward a sustainable and resilient energy future in both Jordan and Iraq, through advanced energy system modeling and the implementation of innovative solutions on university campuses, transforming them into living models of energy transition across the region.
The selection of Applied Science Private University as a partner in this international project reflects the confidence of German institutions in the university’s academic and research capabilities, as well as its ability to implement strategic projects with regional impact, particularly in the fields of renewable energy, applied education, and scientific research.
The project is built around three main pillars, most notably:
- Transforming university campuses into leading, self-sufficient models powered by renewable energy.
- Establishing specialized facilities for realistic energy modeling (Energy Lab) within the university.
- Launching advanced academic programs, including a Master’s and Diploma program in Engineering of Systematic Sustainable Energy Futures (ESSEF) at Applied Science Private University, and an ESSEF Certificate Program at Imam Ja’afar Al-Sadiq University.
The project also provides access to advanced, high-performance software and hardware, integrating scientific, communicative, and aesthetic dimensions into energy models. This approach enhances the educational experience and applied research, while strengthening the link between academic knowledge and real-world applications.
ASU’s participation in this project is the result of specialized academic efforts led by Dr. Mohammad Hamdan from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, reflecting the university’s commitment to supporting international research initiatives that contribute to sustainable development and innovation.
