The Role of Project-Based Learning and problem-based learning strategies

Abstract : The current study aimed to identify the role of project-based learning and problem-based learning strategies in supporting Interior design courses at the university-based level. The study methodology relied on the descriptive analytical methodology in order to achieve its goals and answering its questions. The study results concluded that using nontraditional strategies such as project-based learning and problem-based learning are important for improving the outputs of teaching interior design courses at university-based level. Moreover, the results indicated that using any strategy depends on the nature of the learning task. The researcher recommended implementing these strategies for teaching interior design courses in universities with providing the necessary training about the optimal implementation.

أثر أنظمة الإنتاج بالجملة في التصميم الداخلي على البيت العربي الإسلامي في الأردن

Abstract : هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى استقصاء أثر أنظمة الإنتاج بالجملة في التصميم الداخلي على البيت العربي الإسلامي في الأردن؛ واستندت إلى المنهج الوصفي من أجل الوقوف على طبيعة تأثيرات أنظمة الإنتاج بالجملة على التصاميم الداخلية للبيوت العربية الإسلامية بعناصرها المختلفة. واعتمدت الدراسة على الملاحظة كأداة لجمع البيانات من نماذج الدراسة التي تم اختاريها بطريقة قصديّة بما يتوافق مع أهداف الدراسة. وخلصت الدراسة إلى عدد من النتائج أبرزها وجود أثر واضح لأنظمة الإنتاج بالجملة في التصميم الداخلي للبيت العربي الإسلامي في الأردن. وقدّمت الدراسة عددا من التوصيات أبرزها ضرورة الربط بين التكنولوجيا والتصميم بصورة تكاملية وإيجابية، ومنح الاعتبار الملائم للمصمم الداخلي بإشرافه المباشر على عملية التصميم.

SUSTAINABLE ALTERNATIVES FOR THE FLOORS AND WALLS' COVERING IN THE RESIDENTIAL HOUSES AT JORDAN: INVESTIGATIVE STUDY

Abstract : The Sustainable interior design practices are seeking for novel solutions during materials selection process. Despite the wide spread of various artificial materials implemented in finishing, the need and dependence on natural material is still of great importance for the sustainable interior design practices. The current paper considered this topic by investigating the role of limestone, and Travertine in particular, as a sustainable alternative for covering the walls and floors of the residential houses in Jordan. The study methodology included two phases: during the first phase a thorough review was undertaken to outline the main features of using limestone as a building and finishing material for houses along with the requirement of sustainability. The second phase included conducting semi-structured interviews with two professionals in the fields of interior design and limestone Industry. The findings of the current work revealed that limestone in general and Travertine in particular hold significant features for walls and floors' covering of the residential houses in Jordan and can be considered as an alternative sustainable material because of its durability, adequate coast, appearance and colors, and availability.

Responding to COVID-19 pandemic: interior designs’ trends of houses in Jordan

Abstract : The emergence of Covid-19 pandemic in the late of 2019 was accompanied with various consequences that included almost the entire life aspects all over the world. To cope with the pandemic, imposing restricted measures was required such as quarantine, lockdowns, and social distancing. Under such conditions people have to spend long periods inside their houses. This issue highlighted the importance and the vital role of houses interior design in meeting the various needs of residents under emergent and changing conditions. The current study aimed at identifying the houses' interior designs responses in Jordan under covid-19 Pandemic. The study methodology adopted both inductive and qualitative approaches to achieve its goals. Under the qualitative approach semi-structured interviews were undertaken by interviewing 10 interior designers and Academics. The finding of the study revealed current and future responses that may be implemented to cope with the pandemic consequences in terms of houses' interior design. Moreover, a conceptual model was proposed.

Reconsidering the criteria of the healthy house's interior design during crises: COVID-19 pandemic as an example

Abstract : Purpose- The advent of Covid-19 pandemic brought various and radical changes at the worldwide level. Globally, severe preventive measures were imposed in order to respond to the crisis such as lockdowns which forced the people to quarantine themselves inside their houses for longer periods. This issue stressed the crucial role of healthy houses in providing the various needs of residents during crises. The current study aimed to investigate the health criteria of the houses' interior design that qualify them for meeting the residents' needs during crises. Design/methodology/approach- The study methodology adopted both inductive approach and a Study Application Model in order to define the Healthy House Criteria and fulfill the study objectives. Under the inductive approach a holistic literature review was undertaken while the Study Application Model implied defining the conception of the overall Criteria of the Healthy House's interior design under covid-19. Findings- The finding of the study showed some areas needed to improve current healthy house's criteria in terms of its interior design that may be utilized to cope with potential crises such as Covid-19. Based on the revealed findings, the researcher suggested a conceptual framework for healthy house's criteria and further research areas. Originality/value- The current research may provide applicable framework for both interior designers and households in terms of how to design and implement a healthy house, which is valid to accommodate residents during potential crises such as Covid-19.

The contemporary Reality of Iwan: In interior architecture: Investigative study

Abstract : The current study aimed to investigate the conception, emergence, and uses of Iwan as a unit in Islamic architecture and interior design. The study highlighted the problem of excluding Iwan from the current architecture and interior design practices in the Arab and Islamic countries despite its potential to cope with the ongoing development over history. The study relied on the historian approach to follow up the emergence of Iwan over the various dynasties along with adopting the inductive and analytical approaches to identify its conception, importance, and uses. The study findings revealed that Iwan was a key architectural element in the Islamic history and posses the potential to be implemented in the current architecture and interior design. Moreover, the findings revealed some ways to deal with the outstanding buildings that involve Iwan within their designs.
