PhD Abstract

The current study aimed to follow up the history of the development of the Interior Design's Traits of the House in Jordan through the different dynasties, to study and analyze the most important elements of the Interior Design of the House in Jordan in terms of the designable, environmental and functional characteristics, to emphasis the cultural and historical value of the Interior Design's Traits of the in general and in Jordan in particular, to clarify the effect of mass production systems on the Interior Design of the House in Jordan, and to introduce recommendations concerning the sustainability of the Arabic Islamic House. The study adopted the analytical descriptive approach. The study used the observation of the Interior Design's Traits of the House, in addition to the interview with professionals in interior design field. The study population comprised the Houses located in Jordan from the independence (1946) till now (early 21th century) and the study samples were chosen according to the purposive method in consistent with the study goals. The study revealed a number of results of which the Interior Design of the Arabic Islamic House in Jordan has developed over time with keeping its traits till the early period of establishing Jordan then it decreased later, the traits of the Interior Design of the House in Jordan are not common currently, the cultural dimension has an effect on the Interior Design's Traits of the House in Jordan especially in relation to the privacy, the mass production systems have effects on the Interior Design's Traits of the House in Jordan that ranged between advantages and disadvantages, and the sustainability for houses can be achieved by using local construction and finishing  materials, using traditional elements, climate orientation, implementing effective and natural lighting and ventilation and the research included a suggested model design for an Arabic Islamic house in Jordan. In the light of the results, a number of recommendations were introduced.
