Pharmaceutical safety is considered one of the essential pillars of any integrated healthcare system. To further educate students on the importance of awareness in spreading the culture of safety in healthcare, the Pharmacy Practice Group, in collaboration with the Medication Error Awareness Foundation, held a lecture on Monday, July 15, 2024, titled:
Safe dispensing, Save life: The role of pharmacist in medication safety
The lecture began with an introduction to the concept of pharmaceutical safety and the necessity of awareness regarding the risks of medication errors and their impact on various aspects of life such as health and increased costs. It then highlighted expected types of errors resulting from misuse, lack of awareness of side effects, potential drug interactions, or by healthcare providers themselves.
Additionally, the presentation covered key strategies to prevent medication errors and emphasized the pivotal role of pharmacists in enhancing patient care through pharmaceutical safety tools and resources to raise community awareness across all demographics.
Real-life cases and examples were studied, and an interactive discussion session with students was conducted as a practical application.
The Faculty of Pharmacy extends its gratitude to the Medication Error Awareness Foundation for sharing their vision on this vital topic. The lecture received enthusiastic attendance from students, reflecting their positive engagement in acquiring knowledge and understanding.
