In a pivotal step toward enhancing the practical applications of biotechnology in pharmacy education, a comprehensive PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) lecture and hands-on workshop was delivered by Mrs. Ayyah Alaa Zaid Al Kilani from Science Oasis Trading Company, as part of the Pharmaceutical Biotechnology course (907522), under the coordination of Dr. Samaa Taha Abdullah.
This activity was arranged with the valued support of Dr. Amin Omar, Assistant Dean, and Dr. Samar Thiab, Dean of the faculty of pharmacy, at Applied Science Private University (ASU).
The workshop provided students with essential technical knowledge and experimental experience in PCR; a core technique in genetic engineering and diagnostics, linking theoretical content with real-time lab practices. This practical exposure aligns with the Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) of the course, particularly:
PLO1 – Learner: by deepening foundational knowledge in molecular techniques.
PLO17 – Quality Manager/Manufacturer: by illustrating how quality diagnostic tools are applied in the pharmaceutical field.
Held during the week covering PCR and DNA sequencing (Week 12: 31/12/2025), this initiative empowered students to engage directly with modern biotechnological tools, preparing them for research and pharmaceutical quality control roles.
