Abstract
This research has discussed the "Structure of Internal Space in Alhambra" within the framework of analytical study. Starting by the Alhambra as a city, tracing the successive civilizations through the years, as well as discussing the historical developments and functions of the city. After that, the study describes the structure of the palace, & the distribution of the internal space, as well as the movement systems. Then describing the internal spaces with a general overview about the materials, surface decorations & colors. Then the study looked in details at the court of lions, and discussed the internal spaces of the court. By explaining the structure of the court, & analyze the planning, the location, and the definition of its spaces. After all there was a study of the geometric & aesthetic dimensions, by analyzing the lion’s court's plan, sections, lions’ basin, doors, surface decorations, arches, columns.
This has been inferred that the Alhambra is constructed on a specific geometric ratios starting from the plan of the palace, to the surface decoration's units, in addition of understanding the symbolism & aesthetic values of the structure of the internal spaces of the lions court, and this study recommends to use the geometric ratios which used in the Islamic civilization and has achieved a distinctive and unique architecture model in contemporary architecture, to achieve an architecture that carries symbolic and aesthetic meanings inherent in the design.
