Between Threads and Textiles: A Field Visit for Fashion and Accessories Design Students

25-4-2026

The Department of Fashion and Accessories Design at the Faculty of Art and Design at Applied Science Private University organized a field visit on Saturday, April 25, to the Downtown area. The visit aimed to provide students with direct, hands-on experience in selecting fabrics and materials from the local market. It offered a valuable opportunity to explore the diversity of textiles in terms of type, texture, and quality, as well as to gain insight into associated costs and appropriate methods of application in accordance with design requirements.

The visit also contributed to enhancing students’ awareness of the subtle differences between materials, enabling them to conduct informed comparisons that integrate aesthetic, functional, and economic considerations—thereby reflecting a more mature understanding of the fashion design process.

Students expressed positive engagement with the experience, noting that it deepened their understanding of material characteristics and strengthened their ability to make informed selections that balance quality, cost, and design needs.

The visit was conducted with the participation of faculty members Dr. Ahmed Elbarbary, Dr. Olivia Hejaz, and Dr. Sarah Alkhateeb, who accompanied the students, provided guidance, and offered practical insights to enhance the learning experience and connect it to academic knowledge.

The Faculty of Art and Design continues its commitment to organizing such applied activities that bridge theoretical knowledge with real-world practice, contributing to the development of students’ expertise and enhancing their ability to apply their skills in a professional and balanced manner.
