Thesis Title: Instructional Design Using Infographic In Higher Education
Abstract: Infographics are widely used in all areas and have been exploited as a supportive aid to develop and enhance the use of digital technology particularly in the education sector. Infographics are considered as an effective visual communication tool that provides the needs of users due to its attractive properties such as rich colour, creative design, and organised components and simulation manner, which are effective for educational use. For students, the advantages of infographics include easy transmission of information and encouragement to gain knowledge. An important feature of infographics is the ability to transform lengthy, complex text into a visually appealing form that is brief and simple and can easily attract students' attention. Furthermore, infographics for educational purposes can increase the interaction of students amongst themselves or with their teachers to create a dynamic classroom environment. Also, infographics are able to carry the intended meaning of the visual information by linking the textual information with semiotic shapes where the latter can guarantee that the student's mind can understand the intended information. All these potentials consider the basic theory used in this study: semiotic theory, which branches from visual communication theory. This study aims to evaluate the effect of employing infographics in higher education, specifically with regard to students' interactions, simplifying information, increasing their attention and their perception of the meaning of transferred information. This evaluation was presented through lectures at Applied Sciences Private University in Jordan in selected colleges; Information Technology College and Business College to compare the four variables applied in this study. Notably, infographics are applied in Jordan, a developing country that aims to promote new educational approaches among associations by using current abilities. The findings of this study show that infographics have a positive and strong impact on students in terms of four variables: interaction, simplification, attention, and perception. The experimental results of this study show the important role of infographics in the education process in the colleges mentioned. Furthermore, vii comparison shows that the students of information Technology College and Business College had different types of interaction. However, infographics have a similar effect on simplification, attention, and perception in both colleges. Additionally, the findings of this study contribute to the literature on visual communication theory, specifically on the use of semiotic signs for educational infographics, and how infographics affects different types of students academically.
