Thesis Title: Color Formation in Quranic Manuscripts of Mamluks
Abstract: The Islamic arts flourished in the Mamluk era, in all Islamic arts and in particular Mamluk manuscripts. And more precise field of Koranic manuscripts, which was associated with mosques and Khanquaoat, since they devised forms of decorative, besides the large sizes that, characterized by these manuscripts which came to fit in with places that were placed as liens in them, represented by the role of worship and science.
Like other arts, Koranic elements manuscripts consist of a set of such space, size, font, color and texture which form the final output. All these elements shared by one element which is the color, and because the Mamluk Koranic manuscripts are characterized by motifs and contained floral and geometric motifs in addition to the font represented by the Koranic text which is the inherent significance of the function of these manuscripts. Thus, the momentum of the optical elements gave color richness for Manuscripts, so the color occupied all the area of the Koranic page. From this point, this research cared about the color and its use in arts, to highlight the role of the color in the arts and the dynamic that it , added to the Koranic manuscripts. This research work is divided into an introduction and three main chapters sequentially to link the concepts and technical characteristics of the study matter. The first chapter addressed the Color in various Islamic arts in terms of the concept of the color, its scientific and technical formation, and the color usage in various Islamic arts. Further, it addressed color modern theories and modern color science. The second chapter was about mamluk in terms of the concept and material used in them which are paper and ink. it also addressed the description of mamluk koranic manuscripts with their font and decoration. The third chapter dealt with color formation in koranic starting in the first part of the chapter with color techniques in terms of gilding, binding, decoration and font within these manuscripts, while in the second part, the study samples where analysis based on the contents of the first chapter. Finally, the researcher concluded the study with several recommendations.
