As part of Applied Science Private University’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the connection between academia and professional market demands, the Department of Fashion and Accessories Design at the Faculty of Arts and Design organized a distinguished scientific lecture in collaboration with Engineer Hossam Arafat, the former head of the Textile and Paper Laboratory at the Royal Scientific Society. This lecture is part of a series of activities held by the university to enhance interaction between students and the latest practices in specialized industries.
The lecture focused on the importance of textile testing, with a particular emphasis on the techniques used to measure fabric quality. Engineer Arafat provided a detailed explanation of how to read and interpret test reports, thereby enhancing students’ ability to understand testing results and apply them in practical settings. The session also covered tensile strength and elongation tests, which are essential for determining the durability and resilience of fabrics. Additionally, the lecture addressed colorfastness testing, highlighting how to assess color stability under various conditions.
The discussion extended beyond standard tests to include fiber identification tests, where Engineer Arafat explained the methods used to determine the types of fibers in materials. This valuable information equips students to effectively tackle the challenges of the fashion industry.
The lecture had an interactive aspect, featuring dynamic discussions between students and specialists, which contributed to a deeper practical understanding of these tests in the context of fashion design. Through such activities, the university aims to empower students with the practical knowledge required to meet the demands of the evolving job market, reflecting its strong commitment to providing high-quality education that aligns with industry needs.
