A Creative Expression of Heritage Identity: Outstanding Student Achievement in an Archaeology Competition

A new accomplishment added to the record of excellence at the Faculty of Art & Design at Applied Science Private University, Islam Qawasmi, a student from the Department of Design & Visual Communication, won 3rd place at the national level in the Jordanian Department of Antiquities competition: Poster Design in Celebration of World Heritage Day. The competition was held on April 19, 2026, and aims to raise awareness of Jordan’s cultural heritage and highlight archaeological sites through creative visual works. The project was supervised by Lec. Inas Daradkeh. 

Her Royal Highness Princess Dana Firas, a global advocate for heritage protection, honored the winners in recognition of their creativity and excellence. The ceremony was attended by Prof. Fawzi Abu Danaa, Director General of the Department of Antiquities, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Imad Hijazeen, Arch. Yazan Kamel Mahadin, CEO of Mahadin Consulting Engineers, along with several representatives from UNESCO in Amman. 

This achievement reflects the distinguished quality of the student’s design, showcasing an advanced ability to employ graphic design elements in a contemporary style that expresses national identity and highlights the cultural value of Jordan’s heritage, aligning with the competition’s goals of supporting cultural tourism and strengthening the connection to heritage. 

The accomplishment also underscores the faculty’s commitment to supporting its students and empowering them to participate effectively in specialized competitions, contributing to the development of their creative skills and strengthening their presence in the design field at both local and national levels.
