Design Insights: Interior Design Between Academic Creativity and Professional Practice

​As part of its ongoing commitment to providing students with the latest developments in knowledge and arts, the Faculty of Art & Design at Applied Science Private University organized an event on Tuesday, January 6, titled “Design Insights”. Receiving wide participation from academics and specialists, as well as a large number of students.

The event featured nearly thirteen workshops across various fields of art & design, with each department offering a set of workshops aimed at supporting students academically and practically, and strengthening their connection to the job market and its evolving requirements.

The Interior Design Department participated with five workshops covering diverse topics. Arch. Stephanie AlKhoury delivered a workshop on heritage preservation, during which she showcased restoration elements in Southminster Church in Ottawa, highlighting the importance of documenting architectural heritage and methods of preserving it.

Arch. Ahmad Al-Maghribi presented a workshop titled “Principles of Furniture Design”, discussing mechanisms for integrating leather craftsmanship into contemporary home furniture in a way that blends authenticity with modernity.

In a related context, Arch. Iman Bani Hani gave a workshop on residential projects, discussing major design challenges and practical solutions employed in these types of projects. 

Another workshop given was by the Jordan Green Building Council, it explored sustainability in practical applications, from residential buildings to heritage structures. The series of workshops by the Interior Design Department concluded with a session by Arch. Tareq Abdul Hadi titled “Interior Design and Psychology”, which examined the relationship between interior spaces and their psychological and behavioral impact on users.

These workshops were held in the facilities of the Faculty and the Dentistry Faculty Auditorium, providing an interactive educational environment that offered students the opportunity for direct dialogue with professionals and practitioners in the field.

At the conclusion of the event, the Faculty Dean honored the participating lecturers in appreciation of their efforts and their scientific and professional contributions. He praised the high quality of the workshops and the valuable practical expertise shared with students from real-world professional practice. Students also expressed their appreciation for this activity, noting the unique knowledge and experiences it provided, which enhanced their practical understanding and strengthened the link between academic learning and professional reality.
