The Faculty of Art and Design, Department of Fashion and Accessories Design at Applied Science Private University, concluded its second training course in collaboration with Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), titled “The Advanced Fashion Course.” The course was conducted by Lec. Nancy Najeeb in the Fashion Design Studio at the faculty from September 22 to 29. The program aimed to advance participants’ skills in fashion design and garment construction by introducing them to pattern templates for abayas, trousers, and skirts, as well as training them to cut and assemble fabric pieces with precision. It also explored different cutting techniques and the appropriate fabric types for each design. Additionally, the course featured a creative component that focused on incorporating traditional elements using distinctive trims, reflecting the participants’ cultural identities.
Eleven trainees from Gaza, Syria, Iraq, and Yemen—women affected by war—took part in the course. Their participation added a powerful humanitarian dimension to the workshop, highlighting the transformative power of art in supporting recovery, empowering individuals to express themselves, and rebuilding hope through creativity.
This initiative reflects the university’s commitment to supporting applied programs that empower vulnerable communities and strengthen their creative potential. It also underscores the vital role of the Faculty of Art and Design and the Department of Fashion and Accessories Design in harnessing art to serve humanity, fostering innovative skills, and keeping pace with developments in the fashion and design industry both locally and regionally.
