Masters Abstract

Monitoring of Semivolatile organic pollutants in Jordanian Surface Water by gas chromatography mass spectrometry

Monitoring of organic pollutants in environment especially in water, is essential to determine its quality for human use. Organic pollutant especially semivolatile are responsible for many disease, most of them are carcinogenic. These pollutants include pesticides, polyromantic hydrocarbon, polychlorinated biphenyl, phathalate and phenolic compounds. Toxcity of some of these compound is in ng/L level. GC-MS has been applied progressively as an accurate, sensitiveand specific technique for trace analysis of different kinds of organic pollutant in surface water. Periodically, samples of surface water were collected from different sites from Jordan. Samples were extracted and analyzed by GCMS employed in different programs modes. Detected organic were tabulated and change in their was monitored.
