The Prevalence of Obesity among Pregnant Females and its Relation to Pregnancy Outcomes

(Abstract)

Background and Aim: Maternal obesity poses a significant global health challenge, increasing risks during gestation. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of pre-pregnancy and gestational obesity among a cohort of pregnant females and to investigate its associated risks concerning adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes. Methods: A prospective, observational design was utilized, involving (200) pregnant women recruited from [Benha University Hospital, from the prenatal care clinics]. Data collection included Body Mass Index (BMI) assessment, evaluation of co-morbidities, labor complications, and neonatal indices such as birth weight and Apgar scores. Expected/Key Findings: Preliminary findings are anticipated to demonstrate a significant positive correlation between elevated maternal BMI and complications such as gestational hypertension, pre-eclampsia, labor dystocia, higher rates of Cesarean section, and adverse neonatal outcomes, specifically macrosomia and neonatal hypoglycemia. Conclusion: The findings underscore the critical need for integrating specialized, evidence-based nutritional and lifestyle counseling into routine antenatal care to
