As part of its continuous efforts to enhance students' practical skills in Commercial Law, the Faculty of Law at the Applied Science Private University organized the Ninth Internal Moot Court Competition in Arabic on Thursday, January 8, 2026. Held during the first semester of the 2025/2026 academic year, the competition was titled: "A Commercial Arbitration Case between Elite Advanced Technologies and Horizon Modern Software."
The case facts center on an arbitration dispute between "Elite" and "Horizon" regarding the ownership of a digital identity designed by the former for the latter under a commercial contract. Elite claims the contract grants it full intellectual property rights, providing Horizon with a license for private use only. However, Horizon registered the design as a trademark and utilized it in external projects. While Elite demands the cancellation of the registration, affirmation of its ownership, and compensation for damages, Horizon contends that payment of the financial consideration transferred full ownership to them, requesting the dismissal of the arbitration claim.
The competition was organized under the patronage of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Haitham Abu Khadija, and the University President, Prof. Dr. Samiha Jarrah. Supported by the Dean and faculty members, the event stems from the Faculty's vision to prepare law students possessing the necessary skills to plead before courts and arbitral tribunals. Students competed in two stages. The preliminary stage included forty-three participants, from which ten teams qualified for the final stage, comprising five rounds. During these rounds, each team presented ten-minute oral pleadings before a specialized panel. One team assumed the role of the Claimant, while the opposing team represented the Respondent.
The arbitration panel consisted of practicing lawyers: Mr. Bashar Diat, Dr. Atheeb Al-Barqawi, and Mr. Amr Nazzal. The final results were announced as follows:
· Best Claimant Team: Lana Al-Khatib and Maria Al-Dahoon.
· Best Individual Oralist (Claimant): Sadeel Ishtiwi.
· Best Respondent Team: Lama Abu Athieh and Hamza Al-Mawajdeh.
· Best Individual Oralist (Respondent): Maya Al-Damiri.
At the conclusion of the competition, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and the University President honored the winners and distributed certificates of appreciation, emphasizing the importance of such practical training in preparing a legal generation capable of representing national and humanitarian causes in international forums.
