College of Nursing Hosted a Workshop on Learning Difficulties and Student Empowerment
The College of Nursing organized a scientific workshop entitled “Empower Every Mind, Embracing Every Challenge”, delivered by Dr. Abdelrhman Tamimi, a faculty member at the College of Nursing. The workshop presented the findings of a research study conducted collaboratively by Dr. Al-Tamimi and nursing students, focusing on learning difficulties among nursing students and their impact on academic achievement, particularly in scientific and research-based courses.
The workshop highlighted the importance of recognising learning difficulties as an academic and educational issue that requires institutional awareness and supportive strategies, rather than stigma. Dr. Tamimi emphasised that universities play a crucial role in creating inclusive learning environments that accommodate individual differences and empower all students to reach their full potential.
Students Lynn Al-Zagha and Farah Aziz actively participated in the workshop by presenting and discussing the research findings. Their contribution reflected a high level of academic engagement and critical understanding of the study’s objectives, methodology, and outcomes.
The students also shared their personal learning experiences through participating in the research process with Dr. Tamimi, noting that this was hands-on involvement significantly enhanced their understanding of the Research Methods course, strengthened their analytical and critical-thinking skills, and helped bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and practical application.
The workshop further emphasized the role of the university in supporting students with learning difficulties through academic advising, flexible teaching and assessment strategies, faculty development, and the promotion of student-centered research initiatives. Such efforts align with the university’s mission to ensure equity, inclusivity, and quality in higher education.
The session concluded with an interactive discussion attended by faculty members and students, reinforcing the value of collaborative research, student empowerment, and institutional responsibility in addressing learning challenges within nursing education.
