Extended-Reality and Games Development

Extended-Reality and Games Development Club

The Games Club DevXRt aims to provide students with a comprehensive experience in game production, guiding them from the initial idea stage all the way to delivering a playable prototype. Participants follow a structured training pathway built around a set of practical workshops designed to strengthen both technical and creative skills while enhancing teamwork. The journey begins with the Unreal (Blueprints) workshop, which introduces students to visual scripting in Unreal Engine and allows them to build an interactive 3D scene. Next, students attend the Game Art Design workshop, focusing on Pixel Art and Low-Poly techniques to produce consistent assets that can be integrated into projects. They then progress to the Game Mechanics Design workshop, which covers concepts such as the core gameplay loop, balancing difficulty and rewards, and progression across different levels. The outcome of this workshop is a concise Game Design Document (GDD) that clearly defines the intended experience.

A key element across all workshops is the development of a Storyboard, a visual sequence that illustrates the game’s flow, scenes, characters, and challenges. The storyboard serves as a roadmap that transforms abstract ideas into a tangible plan, making collaboration between programmers, artists, and writers more effective. It ensures that everyone shares a unified vision of how the game unfolds.

By the end of the program, students are able to produce a small but complete prototype, combining custom assets, defined mechanics, and a clear storyline. They also prepare a short gameplay video that demonstrates their work. These outcomes highlight not only the technical side of development but also essential soft skills such as time management, project organization, and effective communication. In this way, the Games Club achieves its mission of preparing students to innovate in the field of game development, while also equipping them to participate confidently in competitions and showcases at both local and regional levels.
