A Silver Lining of Coronavirus: Jordanian Universities Turn to Distance Education
Authors :
Abstract : Jordan, like other countries in the world, is facing the Coronavirus pandemic and is making a great effort to continue education in Jordanian schools and universities through distance education. To evaluate this novel experience, this study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of distance education in Jordanian universities in light of the Coronavirus pandemic and identifying the obstacles faced by university students. To reach the research objectives, a questionnaire was developed by the researchers followed by semi-structured interviews. A sample of 1000 students was selected randomly from public and private universities. The results revealed that the majority of the Jordanian university students are not pleased with this distance learning experience as most of the students encountered some obstacles such as internet speed, technological difficulties, and online content design.

THE MEDIATION EFFECT OF EMPLOYEES’ AFFECTIVE ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT: THE IMPACT OF EMPLOYEES’ PERCEPTIONS OF THE SOCIAL SUPPORT FOR TRAINING PROGRAMS ON ENHANCING THEIR ORGANIZATIONAL CITIZENSHIP BEHAVIOR IN JORDANIAN HOTELS SECTOR
Authors :
Abstract : This study examined customer-contact employees’ attitudes and behaviors employed in Jordanian 1-5 stars hotels. It analyzed their perceptions of the acquired social support for training opportunities and the impact of such support on the service oriented-organizational citizenship behavior. An integrated conceptual model was developed to examine the effects of the social support for employees' training on their service oriented-organizational citizenship behavior, through investigating the mediating role of their affective commitment to their hotels. Using a sample of 450 front-line employees, Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modelling (PLSSEM) was conducted to test the hypotheses that were built based on the social exchange theory. The study's results show that social support for training programs helps employees engage in more service-oriented organizational citizenship behaviors, and that employees' affective organizational commitment fully mediates this relationship.
