Authors :Monther AlAtoum 1*, Mohammad Sobuh 2
Abstract :Objective: This study aims to investigate the transformations in the representation of natural landscapes in contemporary painting, highlighting their historical evolution, development, and defining characteristics over time. Additionally, it seeks to examine the impact of contemporary art on the depiction of natural landscapes, focusing on the artistic thought, technique, material, style, and structure.
Methodology: The current study uses a descriptive-analytical approach to describe and analyze contemporary artworks painting natural landscapes. Nine artworks by a selected group of contemporary artists were purposefully chosen for analysis.
Findings: The study demonstrates a distinct evolution in artistic conceptions of landscape painting compared to those of the modernist era, as seen in the artworks of the selected artists. Contemporary artists have employed natural landscapes philosophically and aesthetically to inform their artistic expression, style, and message. Additionally, shifts in artistic thought regarding natural landscapes are necessarily accompanied by transformations in material and style.
Conclusion: The depiction of natural landscapes has undergone significant evolution over time, leading to a diversity in styles and techniques rooted in shifts in artistic thought and cultural contexts. The stylistic diversity in contemporary landscape painting is difficult to categorize according to specific artistic schools, movements, or trends, as was common in modern art. Therefore, further research is necessary, encompassing a larger sample in terms of time, place, and artistic experiences. Moreover, there is a need to compile a comprehensive reference for contemporary artists specializing in natural landscape painting using modern techniques and approaches
