The College of Arts and Design organized several training workshops and non-curricular lectures for its students on Wednesday, December 27, 2023. The event proved beneficial for approximately 200 students from various specialties.

The lectures varied between specialized lectures and educational ones. The first specialized lectures were delivered by international designer Hanaa Sadiq under the title: Fashion design trends while preserving the Arab identity. The second lecture was given by Engineer Muhammad Abbas, head of the Jordanian Association of Furniture Manufacturers and Suppliers, under the title Creative Ideas: Raw Materials and Kitchens.

As for the educational lectures, they came to enhance the students’ knowledge in various fields, and included three directions: the first was preparing for celebrations and events within the principles of etiquette, in which the designer Farah Al-Daradkah lectured. The second trend is methods for preparing the designer’s portfolio and self-marketing through social media. The designer and social media activist, Muhammad Al-Fahmawi, lectured on it. The third direction dealt with how to design presentations, and was lectured by LEC. Oraib Al-Subaihi, lecturer of interior design at the college.

As for the training workshops, they were presented by a number of professors from the Faculty of Arts and Design. The first workshop specialized in training students on creating mosaic compositions of square Kufic script. Presented by Dr. Safaa Jahama; Graphic Design Professor and LEC. Mahmoud Salem; lecturer of drawing and painting. The second was concerned with teaching participants how to use Arabic calligraphy in fashion through stencil printing, and was presented by Dr. Ahmed Al-Barbari, head of the Fashion and Accessories Design Department, and Dr. Olivia Hijaz, professor of fashion design.

The diversity of lecture and workshop titles offered comes due to the diversity of specializations in the college, which include interior design, graphic design, design for digital media, and fashion design. The College of Arts and Design organizes annually a group of workshops and extracurricular lectures aimed at refining students’ skills away from academic courses, under the title “Highlights in Design.”
