Sustainable Development Goals

Climate Action

Sustainable and clean energy is considered one of the core building blocks for sustainable development at the Applied Science Private University. From this perspective, and to emphasize the long-term commitment and aspiration of the university, "sustainable development" has been clearly stated in the vision and mission statement of the university.

Over the past few years, the university has achieved significant reduction in both energy consumption and CO2 emission due to the implemented policies, the continuous monitoring of energy consumption, and the awareness and education campaigns in partnership with the relevant stakeholders.

The Center of Renewable Energy and Environmental Studies at the university is the main driver behind this SDG, and it has been in-charge of monitoring the efficiency and operation of the Photo Voltaic (PV) system, producing annual reports on the university's consumption of electricity and CO2 emission levels, and providing support and training for researchers and students in the area renewable energy. In the academic year 2020/2019, the center launched a university-wide research study about the level of energy consumed by the fluorescent lighting units. The study reached the conclusion that the amount of energy consumed will be reduced by %50 if the fluorescent lighting units were to be replaced by equivalent LED lighting units with the same luminous intensity. In the year 2021/2020, the center carried out the project of replacing 5500 lighting unit in all the university's buildings, where -80Watt fluorescent lighting units were replaced by -36Watt LED lighting. Currently the center is conducting a study to replace all diesel-powered heating systems (boilers) with electric air conditions powered by renewable energy.
