Shaymaa Abdulrazzaq, a current master's student at ASU, was always interested in science during high school and never stopped being curious about it!
Shaymaa started her passion at the school level with two modules, “biology and chemistry," as the main source of knowledge. Then, focused on this more during the course-work of IB- International Baccalaureate (grade 11-12) years, from performing biostatistics on rare plants in Al-Fuhais area-Jordan to doing a more challenging Iodination of Butanone experiment in school labs!
During college, pharmacy subjects, especially microbiology and industrial pharmacy, have been a trustworthy source of inspiration throughout the 5-year journey of the bachelor's degree. To augment this interest, Shaymaa signed up for collaborative work with Dr. Mohammad Al-Najjar as a research assistant in the last year of pharmacy bachelor's degree, implementing simple and basic antimicrobial/ microbiological tests and learning about writing scientific papers and research. A few years later, Shyamaa phased up for the master's degree-research track focusing on microbiology- Gut Microbiota- which is considered one of the hot-research areas these days.
Moreover, Shaymaa is currently working in the immunology area, conducting different immune-testing techniques on macrophage cell lines under the supervision of Dr. Muna Barakat, who's been a true supporter and inspiration to give the best all the time.
Once upon a time, a teacher told Shaymaa “Always let a small branch grow from that original tree of dreams to keep you going". From this, she will not stop here, as the industrial pharmacy is still one of her favorite topics to dig in soon!
