Lecture titled: Milk formula: differentiation for better use

22-7-2024

Due to changes in lifestyle and variations in societal behaviors toward children's healthcare, especially in the early stages of their lives, and their essential need for milk as the primary source of nutrients for their growth and health, the Pharmacy Practice Group held an awareness lecture on Monday, July 22, 2024, titled:

"Milk Formula: Differentiation for Better Use"

The lecture initially covered the difference between breast milk and formula milk, which can sometimes cause allergies in children. It then presented the history of milk formula development, the innovator of the idea, the challenges faced, and the scientific experiments and studies aimed at creating fortified and other milk options.

Following that, the lecturer discussed the relationship between mother and child, the benefits and necessity of breast milk for the infant, and the key differences distinguishing each type of formula milk, as the ingredients and their quantities vary according to the child's age group.

The lecture also addressed the stages of child development and the correct sequence for gradually introducing milk preparations to infants from birth, as well as how to gradually incorporate certain types of foods into the child's diet until the child is settled on regular food.

In conclusion, some sources where these preparations can be obtained were mentioned, along with the leading manufacturing and producing countries, in addition to mentioning an overview of the key stages in milk preparation processes such as pasteurization, sterilization, and factory cleanliness.

The Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Dr. Samar Thiab, expressed her gratitude to Dr. Mohamed Qandil for his significant role in educating and imparting his scientific and practical expertise to students, training them, and preparing them for the job market.
