History of the University​

Applied Science Private University (ASU) is located in the Shafa Badran area within the boundaries of the Greater Amman Municipality on a 356 Dunum plot. The university is affiliated to the Arab International Company for Education and Investment. The university began its education on 19/10/1991, after obtaining the license on 10/7/1989.

Applied Science Private University has obtained the Quality Management System (ISO 9001: 2000) from Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance since 2003 and was the first university to receive this certification in the Middle East.

With the new international standards (ISO 9001: 2008), the University was awarded the new certification in 2010, after it was confirmed that the university achieved all of the requirements of the new standards.

In 2018, the ISO 9001: 2008 certificate was renewed, and the University successfully received the latest version of the Quality Management System (ISO 9001: 2015).

It has been well acknowledged, locally and aboard, that Applied Science Private University is a leader in the field of higher education and quality. The University's senior management has adopted the "Quality and Excellence Philosophy: Continuous Improvement is Our Way to Excellence".

Proudly, it is the first university in Jordan to receive the Quality Assurance Certificate in Education, Scientific Research and Community Service - Golden Level. In addition, it is the first private university in Jordan and the Middle East to receive a QS 4 star ranking issued by the QS Rating, evaluated according to education, scientific research, faculty efficiency and the employment rate of the graduates.

The Faulty of Pharmacy at the University was the first, and still the only, to obtain the Quality Assurance Certificate in Education, Scientific Research and Community Service - Golden Level. In addition, the faculty was the first across all private universities to obtain the American International Accreditation Certificate (ACPE).

The Faculty of Information Technology, Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Nursing have also obtained the Quality Assurance Certificate in Education, Scientific Research and Community Service - Silver Level. The following table shows the certificates of Quality Assurance and Accreditations Obtained by the University.

The Faculty of Engineering was visited recently by the ABET. The ABET committee recommended the adoption of all five engineering programs under evaluation, thus becoming the first Faculty of Engineering among all private universities to obtain this prestigious international accreditation.

The University currently has eight faculties: Arts and humanities, Law, Business, Engineering, Pharmacy, Information Technology, Nursing, Arts and design, beside the Deanship of Scientific Research and Graduate Studies.

The number of majors taught by these Faculties is 27, at the bachelor level, in addition to 6 Masters Programs including Accounting, Marketing, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Computer Science, Nursing, Finance and Risk Management.

Approximately 6,000 students are currently enrolled in the University. They belong to approximately 53 Arab, Islamic and foreign countries.

The University provides its students and the community with training courses offered by the Center for Studies and Consultations in cooperation with distinguished training centers with international credentials that link theory with application (Appendix 1).

The number of faculty members for the academic year 2017/2018 is 221 members, including 197 members holding a PhD. The number of scholarship offered by the University is standing at 138, offered to students seeking to obtain a PhD degree from American, Canadian, British, Australian and other prestigious universities.

The total area of the university buildings is about 11,600 square meters, divided into nine buildings for the academic faculties, a building for the university presidency and student registration, and a building for the public library in the university which scientific and literary books exceeded 130,000 books. The University also has an Olympic Football Stadium, with a capacity of 15,000 people for national games and celebrations. The Hall of the Students' Affairs (holding state of the arts activities complex), the Animal Building, Sports hall (with a capacity of 7 thousand people moving on the runways), in addition to the dedicated students' facilities scattered around the university. The University also offers open playgrounds and areas for tennis, football, volleyball and basketball, as well as places for other activities including bowling, billiards, self-defense, bodybuilding and saunas.

The University provides scientific laboratories with the latest equipment, which number has exceeded 160 laboratories. In addition to the workshop rooms, operators and drawing.

Other facilities include the mosque, the Arab Bank branch, ATMs belonging to three different banks, a post office and a bookshop for stationery and books.

In 2017, the University opened the Student Activities Center (called the 360 building) at the highest international standards which includes many activities, in addition to numerous restaurants, a digital printing, sports halls, bookstores and stationery centers.

The University is connected to a network of transportation with various areas of the capital and a number of major Jordanian cities. It has a fleet of about 60 vehicles and buses that serve students and employees.

Until 2017/2018, the University has graduated 24 cohorts, with the number of graduates exceeding 33,287 students from the different Faculties and disciplines.

​The achievements of the university continue through the Applied Science Private University in cooperation with Ibn Al-Haitham Hospital and the Al-Ittihad Schools to approve the initial establishment of "Jordan Medical Modern University" and pending the completion of the rest of the procedures.
