About University

President's Message

       Prof. Zeyad Ramadan
        University President

The Applied Science University (ASU) was established in 1989 to be a university for all Arabs and a place for knowledge and virtue. It was the first private university in Jordan to get licensed, and began work in 1991. It was also the first university in the Arab World to get the ISO certification in higher education and scientific research in 2003.

ASU attracts students from more than 45 Arab and foreign countries, which makes it an international university. It provides them with the latest books, periodicals, references, laboratories and Internet services, and prepares them for the work market by having them trained for a period of eight weeks in selected institutions related to their fields of study under the direct supervision of faculty members. ASU helps them in the selection of these institutions, and follows their work up by the field visits made by staff members in their training sites. Students graduate only after meeting this requirement. Hence, the adjective "applied" is used in the name of this university. This requirement, consequently, contributes to two things. First, it provides the students with considerable experience in aspects of life related to their specialty, and second, it introduces the students to these institutions, and thus opens a job market for them, which has led to real and tangible employment opportunities to a considerable number of graduates in the institutions where they received training. As a result of these two things, the university has succeeded in preparing a generation of qualified youth to address many issues they face in life, especially as it fosters this spirit by having students prepare scientific research projects as a compulsory requirement for graduation. Moreover, the university sponsors conferences, scientific research and scholarships, by allocating 5% of its annual budget for such activities. So far, ASU has offered full scholarships to more than 70 students to study for their Ph.D.'s in various fields of study in Arab, European, American, Canadian, Asian, and Australian universities. ASU also has a plan whereby a number of students are offered full scholarships each year to continue their postgraduate education in designated fields.

The university also interacts positively with educational institutions and associations worldwide. It is a member of the Federation of Universities of the Arab World, the International Association of Universities, the Federation of International Arab Universities, and the Union of Islamic Universities, as well as the associations of deans of faculties formed by the Union of Universities of the Arab World and the Arab Organization for Admission and Registration Directors in the Arab universities.

The university has established an office for quality control, another to take care of new students' affairs, and a third to follow up alumni affairs.

The university also has a unique relationship with the Supreme Council for Youth through the ASU club, which has achieved advanced positions in local and Arab tournaments in basketball and other games.

So, welcome to our site, and we hope to meet you at our university.
